your host D Martinez today we have guest
co-host Kyle
Thompson today we have a very
interesting episode for you guys so
we've done a we've done a couple
episodes about scams and fishing and
types of real estate scams today we have
a person who's actually got hit
personally toson in a email fishing scam
so this is more for educational purposes
on what's going on currently because
this just happened to him like a week
ago two weeks ago past month or I would
say in in May I should say so the past
30 days so it's it's a very very very
recent fishing scam so I'll let Kyle
Chapter 2: The Phishing Attack.)
jump into the the the details of it
personally because I want everybody I
want everybody to be safe out there
because us as Real Estate Investors we
deal with a lot of money and transaction
and there's a lot of money at stake for
we do so I want to hopefully everybody
here like says you watch your back but
go ahead Kyle yeah so um it's not a
super long story but I would say that
the fishing in this game it's getting
more complex and it's more uh I don't
know the war for but but the they're
getting more uh sophisticated I should
say they're getting more sophisticated
and they're starting to understand who's
playing in real estate and that's who
they're going after so it's like a it's
so what happened to me is like a chain
effect so they hacked someone's email
that's in the real estate space they
knew what space I was in and I was doing
uh like infill land flipping at the time
so they had a developer that I was
working with messaged me with a high
importance email directly from their
email with their logo everything
everything involved and it said like
like land proposal or it said something
in the subject line of like something
proposal and then it said like hey Kyle
please let me know what you think about
this proposal and let me know if you
have any questions and it was a PDF
and I clicked the PDF and the PDF opened
up into like a like docu sign type style
and it kept saying like click to review
click to review and I kept pressing
click to review because I've I've me
I've emailed with this person before so
I was like what is this like what does
she send me I kept pressing it maybe
pressed like five or six times and it
didn't work and then I messaged her back
and I was like hey this this email is
not working or your your proposal that
you're trying to show me you must have
either sent this to the wrong person or
you need to resend it she never
responded I didn't think anything of it
I went I went about with my day and then
two weeks later I wake up to my email
saying new login like 25 times while I
was sleeping in like New Jersey Seattle
Connecticut Wyoming everywhere it was
like everywhere I think one was in like
Pakistan I don't know just random places
and I like reset my password and then it
kept login from other people too and
even after changing my password so I
changed my password again I reached out
to God Daddy because that's who was
supporting my Outlook email they they
they said they they were trying to like
upcharge me for the security thing I
said Well Log everyone out they're like
no I said well I can't log everyone out
of my Outlook or whatever so so my email
was completely compromised and then a
few days later my buddy was like dude
why did you send me that I said send you
what he said you sent me some sort of
proposal I said what and I go show me
and he sends it to me it's the same
exact thing that I got sent but it got
sent to my one of my good friends that I
had emailed back and forth a lot with
about business stuff in real estate and
it was the same exact thing my logo my
exact email my high importance and this
same exact message with the proposal and
he clicked into it and I don't know how
far he went down that's how they were

getting people is you keep clicking into
it because it looks so legit and it
keeps going down the line and they keep
getting your contact list and they go
they go back and forth it was
crazy so one one of the things that I
think that's I don't know how many
people they got with this one similar
scam because who knows how many chains
or how many chains of connections they
got to get the title company or that
that buyer and then they got you and
they spoofed you and then they got your
email list so um you could be it could
be hyp hypothetically thousands of
people they got in one one little tranch
off of one connection that they they
initially
hacked scam and I don't think think I
was the true victim in this although I
almost lost a deal because of it I don't
think I was the true victim of it but
they're they're trying to get to the
victims through me so that that's really
that's really what they're trying to do
they're trying to get to people that
have more sensitive stuff as opposed to
me but they know I'm the access to that

and it's all part of their their scheme
it's part of the chain the chain who
who's who's got my cheese as the book
says ex exactly so for everybody here
just be careful out there it's they're
getting they're getting creative and
Kyle is
techy yeah I I would say I'm pretty
techy and I'm into it I mean you get a
random spam one from a Sholanda 12 4678
and you're like yeah whatever like
you're not kidding me but you get
something from someone you've been
emailing back and forth with me like
that looks legit to me and and you know
I'm all about my business so
it it was crazy to me that that one was
crazy so be careful out there fishing
scams are real and we don't know the the
damage that has been done or will be
done off of that but you got to be
careful out there and protect your your
your online identity and online access
you provide to people because people are

trying to take advantage of that and
they will there are people always be
adapting to new technology and new
strategies so you always have to keep
your eyes open especially in the
business world

Hi! I am Anthony Gaona.
I’ve been in digital marketing for almost 15 years.I grew up in construction working for my dad when I was only 12 years old. Normally we had a ton of work or no work at all so a lot of my free time was spent learning how to generate leads.
It didn’t take very long for me to master online marketing because I became absolutely obsessed with it. For the last 15 years I’ve been generating construction based leads. At first I was running the projects myself. This led to sub-contracting all of the excess projects and eventually wholesaling the leads off to other construction companies.
One day I was preparing to build a single family residence for myself. In mid December, 2018, a simple YouTube search led me to the term wholesaling and the rest is history. The plan was to use my construction background to start flipping houses. By January 1st of 2019 I launched several marketing campaigns both on and offline for real estate seller leads.
Within about 4-5 weeks I had my first real estate contract locked up. It didn’t take long for me get a land lead where I made almost a full year’s pay on a single transaction. This came from a land lead and that forever changed my life.
